Tsunami Warning System

> Attention Photo Editors:

Nicosia, Cyprus/March 24, 2010/FPSnewswire/-- A technician prepares to enter the Harris OceanNet buoy moored in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, 80 miles off the coast of Cyprus. Maritime technicians are adding advanced communications technology to the 18-meter tall (8 meters above water level) buoy that will serve as part of a new offshore sensor system to help detect and provide early warnings of potentially dangerous tsunamis in the region. Fast-moving tsunamis pose a special threat in the Mediterranean Sea because it is relatively narrow, with a maximum width of only 1,600 kilometers. (Feature Photo Service)
